From: London Youth Dance

Twenty-one youth dance groups from across London came together at the Southbank Centre to perform in front of a packed audience of friends, family, passers-by and our young panel of judges, all hoping be one of the ten groups chosen to perform at the U.Dance London event on 16th and 17th January at the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler’s Wells.
Groups had been given the theme of ‘freshening up a fairytale’ , inspired by the Christmas productions Into the Hoods, ZooNation's update of the Brothers Grimm fairytales currently running at the Southbank Centre and Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake at Sadler’s Wells until January.  The reason for setting a theme was to help the panel assess whether the groups were open to new choreographic approaches and challenges.
The day also included two free workshops by professional dancers from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures who taught the participants sections of original choreography from Swan Lake.
Each of the companies (A-D-1, Montage Theatre Arts, Arts Ed Youth Company, Impact, Big Deal Dance Company, Brink Dance, Candoco Youth Dance, Holloway Boyz and Girls, Interlude Dance Troupe, Kinetic Dance Company, Magpie Dance Youth, Shift, Cardinal Pole School, Detonate, SMS Dance Company, Tiffin Junior Dance Company, CFS Arts Award Dance Company, Mount Carmel Technology College, Newington Youth Dance, CANDI Youth Dance Company, Srishti Yuva Culture) performed beautiful, well crafted pieces and London Youth Dance would like to congratulate all of the groups for all of their hard work and dedication.
