Golden Chains

Golden Chains is a daring and dynamic dance production that draws upon the highly effective and powerful communicative qualities of Indian dance to venture into fresh ways of addressing issues relevant to our society today. The choreography of Nina Rajarani and India-based Kathak exponent Kumudini Lakhia creatively collaborates the dance styles Bharatanatyam and Kathak to conceive a piece for three dancers. The recorded music score for this piece is composed by Atul Desai.

This work is a confrontation of stigmatic social conditions attached to many Asian marriages, portraying particularly the effect on the victimised woman. The work has developed through a research and study programme carried out by Nina through contact with the social services, women’s organisations, the Police Domestic Violence Unit and victims themselves.  The piece sympathetically voices the predicaments of a suppressed group of people, bringing to the forefront their tribulations.
